Juicing for health… and yellow teeth?

You’ve surely heard about juicing. You’ve probably tried it. Juicing is the latest craze for increasing nutrition, detoxification, weight loss, and much more. It can also have an effect you probably didn’t intend, and that is stained teeth. Many fruits and some vegetables are highly pigmented, and the darkest colors are the most likely to cause stains.

The most damaging effects come from high-acid fruits, which can soften tooth enamel allowing it to absorb stains more readily. Additionally, acid exposure can lead to erosion of tooth enamel, and in turn, tooth sensitivity and decay. You can avoid these problems with a few simple steps:
  • When possible, use more veggies than fruit.
  • Drink through a straw, allowing most of the juice to bypass your teeth.
  • Rinse with water immediately after drinking.
  • Wait at least 30 minutes before brushing, so the enamel has time to re-harden.
  • See your dentist every six months.
If you notice the color of your teeth changing, ask your dentist about teeth whitening or porcelain veneers.

50% off bleaching just in case you're reading this newsletter while drinking a fresh pressed glass of juice.
