Dental Bonding in Sacramento

S
Google Icon They have cared for my teeth for 20+ years. Always warm and very trustworthy. I'd like to share my most recent visit, since it reflects the quality of care they have always provided. So my front tooth had a chipped bottom and my back tooth had a broken filling. First off, he fixed the broken filling without a problem. Next, Dr. Adams walked me through the options we had for the chipped tooth. I asked various questions to address my concerns. His explanations were comforting. For both my teeth issues, he gave me a full idea of what to expect. In the end, both teeth were cared for and function just fine now. No more worrying!

Dental bonding is the perfect alternative to other cosmetic dentistry procedures such as porcelain veneers. This restorative treatment is often used by the team to address imperfections of the teeth such as chips, cracks, discoloration, gaps, and misalignment.

How does dental bonding work?

Dental bonding starts with the preparation of the tooth. The surface of the tooth enamel is lightly etched to ensure a tight bond. Bonding liquid is applied and set, and then a plastic resin is used. It is sculpted onto the tooth by the dentist, and set with a special light. Once the resin has hardened, it can be trimmed, reshaped, smoothed, and polished to achieve the desired appearance. The material, once polished, resembles natural tooth enamel, allowing it to blend in beautifully with the teeth and improve the appearance of the smile.

What are the benefits of dental bonding?

Dental bonding can be done in just one appointment, while porcelain veneers may need several office visits and time required for the fabrication of the restoration. It is faster and often more affordable than porcelain veneers. However, there are some disadvantages to plastic resin over porcelain veneers. It is more susceptible to staining and breakage than veneers or the natural teeth, and will only last approximately four years before requiring repair or replacement. It can be a short-term solution for a patient who is not ready to purchase and commit to porcelain veneers.
